L Flicks: April 4, 2011 movie update

Be with Me is a 2005 Singaporean drama film directed by Eric Khoo. The film is inspired by the life of deaf-and-blind teacher Theresa Poh Lin Chan. It premiered as the Director's Fortnight selection in the 2005 Cannes Film Festival. It was also the official entry from Singapore for the 78th Academy Awards in the foreign language category. In December 2005, the Academy body disqualified the film on grounds that it was not "foreign" enough as the dialogue is mainly in English. Out of 93 minutes, the film only has two and a half minutes of dialogue.

Be with Me is the first film in Singapore to explicitly feature a lesbian relationship.

Tuli is a movie which talks about sexuality set is a small village in the mountains. It was released in 2005 and is directed by Auraeus Solito.

Set in a small village in the mountains, Daisy is the daughter of the town's mangtutuli and as she grows up her frustration with the life grows with her. She escapes this ill feelings by having a relationship with her female bestfriend Botchok. The two decides to have a baby and gets Botchok pregnant with the only man in their village not circumcised.

The three trends on a path where their gender roles is being ostracized by their village who follows many beliefs on what a specific gender must do and be.

* 48 SHADES *

Based on the award winning novel by Nick Earls, 48 Shades of Brown, this coming of age comedy is about a 16 year old, Dan, who must choose between going to Geneva with his parents for a year or move into a house with his young Aunt, Jacq, and her roommate, Naomi. He chooses the latter and now, in his final year of school has to come to terms with survival in an adult world and falling in love for the first time.

* MAKE A WISH *

Make A Wish tells the story of a group of women who get together once again for an annual birthday camping trip. The common denominator in this group of gay and straight girls is Susan: all of the campers are exes of hers. All except Andrea, who is Monica's new girlfriend, and not very pleased to be dragged along on this ridiculous outing. Linda, now straight, left her boyfriend Steve pouting at home, annoyed that she wanted to leave him for the weekend for a romp in the woods with the girls.
